Johnny Appleseed Day is right around the corner (September 26th)! Kids of all ages love celebrating Johnny Appleseed Day because it gives them a fun and educational break from everyday activities!
🍎Idea #1: The first activity is making or buying apple treats for your students if your school allows snacks and food to be brought in. I have created a permission slip that you can send home to parents that requests permission for the students to try these treats. Just make sure none of your students have serious allergies like nuts, that might be on labels if you buy the treats from the store. Click below to grab this free permission slip.
🍏Idea #2: Read a book or two about Johnny Appleseed so they know what the day is about. Why do we celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day? Why is he and his story important?
★Johnny Appleseed by Jodie Shepard
This book is great for younger grades to learn the story of Johnny Appleseed.
What I love about this book is it is a very easy to understand read AND it is written to the tune of Do You Know the Muffin Man! So all my singing K-1 teachers, this is the book for you!
I think this is a great read aloud for upper elementary students leading up to Johnny Appleseed Day. Even if you are not going to have a big celebration you can do a lot of learning activities with this book.
🍎Idea #3: Dissect and apple and figure out why it has all the parts it has. Label them in a picture. Read a book about apples.
🍏Idea #4: Plant an apple seed. Learn about the apple tree life cycle.

🍎Idea #5: Apple themed math activities and centers.
